Coffee Santhe 2018-2019 will be happening in January 2019
Coffee Santhe or Coffee Market is held annually by the WCA-India Chapter, to raise funds for the activities of the chapter. This event has not only increased the visibility of the organisation in Bangalore, the coffee capital of India, but also helps to raise funds for the various projects of the Alliance such as ‘Nayan Tara’ - Education of girl children of coffee women plantation workers; ‘Su Prana’ – Health Camps in the coffee growing regions; ‘Kushal Maya’ – Medical Health insurance for women coffee plantation workers and their families; ‘Aahaar’ – Nutritive supplement for the women coffee plantation workers and their families.
The santhe also hosts the Women Stars Brewing Skills Championship, which is the first of its kind in India and perhaps, also in the world, commencing in 2015, to encourage women baristii from café chains all over the country, to participate and not only upgrade their brewing skills, but also to empower them with confidence, determination, enthusiasm to help other baristii and to develop a passion for their profession.The members of the international jury for the finals are invited from out of the members of the IWCA and from other countries, who are in the field of coffee, such as buyers, roasters and café owners.
The santhe has indeed helped in bringing together women from diverse coffee growing regions in India to empower the less privileged women in the coffee sector.
